Enhancing the Digital Presence of Pakistan’s SDGs Secretariat: A Case Study on Anthro Reach’s Impact

Introduction

The SDGs Secretariat is Pakistan’s Parliamentary Taskforce on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with representation from all parties and provinces. The SDGs Secretariat has established Parliamentary Taskforces on SDGs across all provinces, including Gilgit Baltistan (GB) and Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK), to drive ownership and achieve sustainable development targets. However, the National SDGs Taskforce faced challenges with an underdeveloped website and a lack of legislative mapping for SDGs-related laws. This case study explores how Anthro Reach addressed these challenges and empowered the SDGs Secretariat to enhance its digital presence and effectiveness.

Problem Statement

As the National SDGs Taskforce is essential for driving sustainable development in Pakistan, a functional and active website is critical to its mission. However, the Taskforce did not have a comprehensive website, and there was no legislative mapping of SDGs-related laws, which hindered its ability to identify gaps and implement legislative interventions.

Solution and Implementation

1.    Developing a Comprehensive Website and Legislative Mapping

To address these challenges, Anthro Reach created a functional and active website for the SDGs Secretariat, featuring the following key components:

  1. Legislative mapping of SDGs: The website offers legislative mapping for each of the 17 SDGs, enabling users to access all relevant legislation easily. This one-window access to laws increases public awareness and helps identify gaps for further legislative interventions.
  2. Connecting provincial SDGs taskforces: The website links all provincial SDGs taskforces, fostering inter-provincial coordination and collaboration for a more cohesive approach to achieving the SDGs.

2.    Strengthening Social Media Presence

Anthro Reach also recognized the importance of an active social media presence for the National SDGs Taskforce. To enhance the Taskforce’s outreach, Anthro Reach devised and executed targeted social media campaigns, making the Taskforce’s social media platforms functional and engaging.

Results

The partnership between Anthro Reach and the SDGs Secretariat yielded significant results:

  1. Improved Digital Presence

The functional and active website increased the visibility of the SDGs Secretariat, enabling it to communicate its goals and initiatives more effectively.

  1. Enhanced Legislative Mapping

The website’s legislative mapping feature provided comprehensive access to SDGs-related laws, supporting the identification of gaps and informing legislative interventions.

  1. Strengthened Inter-Provincial Coordination

By connecting provincial SDGs taskforces through the website, Anthro Reach facilitated greater collaboration and coordination, leading to a more cohesive approach to achieving the SDGs.

  1. Expanded social media Outreach

The targeted social media campaigns boosted the SDGs Secretariat’s presence on social media platforms, increasing public awareness and engagement.

Conclusion

Anthro Reach’s efforts in developing a comprehensive website with legislative mapping and enhancing the social media presence of the SDGs Secretariat have significantly improved the organization’s digital outreach and ability to drive sustainable development in Pakistan. By providing the necessary tools and platforms to facilitate inter-provincial coordination, increase public awareness, and enable informed legislative interventions, Anthro Reach has played a crucial role in empowering the SDGs Secretariat to work towards a more sustainable future for Pakistan.
